RE-ORG: reorganize museum storage of Museum of Greek Folk Musical Instruments

The project

In the framework of relocating the storage of the Museum of Greek Folk Musical Instruments "Fivos Anoyanakis" - Centre for Ethnomusicology, Diadrasis will develop a "RE-ORG” educational workshop following the RE-ORG method to reorganize museum storage developed by ICCROM. The workshop is organized by the Directorate of Conservation of Ancient and Modern Monuments and implemented by Diadrasis. The workshop is supported by a sponsorship of the Federal Office of Culture.

Contents

Following two intense weeks, one more educational workshop has been successfully completed, this time focusing on museum storage REORGanization. 
Applying ICCROM’s method REORG, 12+2 restless participants of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture, studies, designed, carefully packed and repositioned 1500 musical instruments in the new storages of the Museum of Greek Folk Musical Instruments.

The workshop hosted some brief introductory lectures by Maria Mertzani – Directorate of Conservation, Hellenic Ministry of Culture & Laura Tapini – diadrasis, which were then immediately put in action, designing and implementing translocation of the entire storage collection of the museum by the participants themselves.  The new storage is finally hosting in optimum conditions the collection divided by typology: Airphones, Membranephones, Chordophones, Idiophones, and workshops, as well as by size and material, ensuring the future uses of the collection by the Museum and interested scholars.
